Our Philosohy Welcome to the Bishop Eustace Prep Crew. There is an adage, "You will never know if you never row!!" The experience one has when they embark on learning this craft is one that cannot be described and one that cannot be predicted. One thing is certain. Whatever the reason for trying the sport, each young man or woman who does so, finds something new and irresistible. Crew is one of the newest sports to Bishop Eustace but it is the oldest scholastic sport in the English-speaking world. It began in England between Oxford and Cambridge and in the US between Harvard and Yale. We who are involved in the crew program hope you will find great joy and satisfaction from this wonderful addiction. Profile Bishop Eustace Prep Crew was founded in 2001 by Bob Kennedy, Ellen and Steve Heinbockel, Maureen Blom, Donna McCool and later with Jane Licata and Ed Doolin. It has developed over the years by many dedicated coaches, parents, and a countless number of hard working, team-oriented student athletes. Although the faces have changed, the goal of the program has remained the same throughout. To offer the student athletes of Bishop Eustace Prep the opportunity to compete in a highly competitive team sport, and through this learn some very valuable lessons in life. Success in crew has also afforded a number of the student athletes exceptional academic opportunities. In the fall of 2005, the program was incorporated into the school as a Varsity sport and in the Spring of 2007, the Girls V8 competed in Henly, England after capturing the NJ States, City Championships and Stotesbury Cups. The Girls V8 followed up the 2007 season by capturing the City Championships and Stotesbury Cup again in 2008. |

"Crew is more than just an after school activity for me. It has become a major part of my life. It has taught me discipline and the value of hard work. The friendships that I have established throughout my four years on the team are invaluable. The coaches have had such a positive influence on me, and have pushed me to reach my full potential. I train year round and the physical changes that I have noticed since my freshman year are truly amazing."

"Once you jump off of the starting line, you are no longer individuals. You are one body, one drive, one swing. You have one voice forcing you forward through the pain, reminding you what you are there to do. You have on goal, one common desire: to get to that finish line first. When nine people can become this one person, you become more than a boat. You become the definition of a team. You become champions."Caitlin R. ‘05 |

“You would never believe a sport could change your life. But crew is not a sport, as much as a lifestyle. Something about being so connected to other people, working so perfectly in unison changes you as a person, makes you a better person. And it is when I am this person that I am happiest." "There are many reasons to row, such as: Discipline; Teamwork; Responsibility; Respect; Dedication; accountability; Friendship; Time Management. We asked several student athletes why they row. This is what they said: 'It is impossible to list all that I have gotten out of crew in the past three years. This sport taught me self-discipline as well as organizational skills. Along with that, crew has also put me in the best shape of my life while opening up more doors to college than I ever could imagine. Without crew I would not be the physically fit and determined person that I am today.' " |
